CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

What is Chat Anywhere?

Chat Anywhere is a chat software which can help you create chat rooms on your computer. You can create and manage these web-based chat rooms with this software.

What is the difference between Chat Anywhere and ICQ?

ICQ is a client software. That is, if it can not connect to the chat server, you can not chat with it. Let's say that you want to chat with Mr. Bill via ICQ, you should download and install the ICQ first, then you should ask Mr. Bill to download and install ICQ also.
Chat Anywhere is a server software. It can provide web-based chat rooms, so everybody can connect to it with IE, Netscape, Opera, etc. You know that today almost all computers have at least one kind of these browsers available. So you needn't ask Mr. Bill to install any software now. But this doesn't mean that Chat Anywhere is better than ICQ, they are two kinds of software and there is a purpose and use for both.

Who needs this software?

If you
* have a website and want to set up a chat room on your website.
* worry that someone might be eavesdropping since you do not control the chat server and you may not be in control.
* can not use ICQ (or other kind of messagers) on your local network. For example, the boss doesn't allow anyone to use an ICQ during work time.
* can not connect to the internet at all, but you still want to chat in the local network.
* want to chat with somebody but that person would refuse to install ICQ.
* don't trust the chat software you are using because you fear it may have a backdoor.
* don't like the chat software your are using because it has too many advertisements or it is too slow.
* want to have your own chat room server.
* just like cool software like Chat Anywhere.
